Garden Prep For Your Own Food Source

Home gardening is becoming more and more popular these days. With the rising cost of food, and more interest in becoming "green", growing your own organic foods seems to be the thing to do.  Garden prep to make this happen can be pretty simple.

First you need to pick a location where you will get sunlight for at least six hours.  Be sure that there is proper drainage so the soil does not become waterlogged. Also take into consideration the possible pests that might be around. They may decide to come and help themselves to your hard work. If this is the case you may want to fence in the area.

Plan your layout of the garden so the plants will have room to spread out and grow. Some vegetables such as squash, and cucumbers are vines that need lots of space vs. beets, onions, and radishes that take up very little room.

Be sure to feed your plants. Mixing in compost that you have made with the soil is a great way to start.  After all your prep is done all you need to do is put in the hard work. If you have the proper tools, gardening can be much easier and faster.
